#DAMAGIRL: Tiffany Lighty
Tiffany Lighty is a woman known for many talents; film making, modeling, and as a health and fitness guru. Although her work schedule is hectic, the Miami resident handles it with style and grace (while still managing to box three times a week)! This month, we wanted to highlight Tiffany as our #DAMAGIRL and talk about how she entered the film making world, her current and upcoming projects, and some of her favorite work out routines.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in New York and New Jersey.
You seem to have a really intense work schedule, what are some of your favorite things to do on your time off?
My favorite things to do would include working out, traveling, eating my way through a new city with my boyfriend and going to the movies.
When did you first begin to experiment with film making? Tell us about a highlight in your career.
I knew that I wanted to pursue film/tv since Middle School. I was a film major in college at the University of Miami and was lucky enough to start working on sets immediately after graduating in 2012. I would say right now is when I’m about to experiment with my own filmmaking because I have always worked for someone else. 2017 is the year that I will finally create my own babies!
The highlight of my career was probably being Oprah’s assistant for the film Selma. She was an incredible person to work for and taught me so much. She was humble, hardworking, self sufficient, kind and just a true pleasure to be around. I experienced so many emotions being on set of that film - I laughed, I cried, I observed people and their positions; like a curious child. I watched for the first time a black female Director, direct a feature film. It was also my first Movie set to work on versus a television show. Overall it truly was an exciting, inspiring and educational experience.
What are some upcoming personal projects you're working on?
For the first time I am going to start submitting to film festivals. I’m really excited about producing some short films. There are many stories to be told and I’m ready to put them out there.
With health and fitness being a big part of your life, can you tell us a little bit about your work out routine?
Boxing is my #1 go-to workout. It’s a full body workout, it teaches you self defense, discipline and it feels good being about to hit a bag and blow off some steam. I do love trying out new workout though, especially when I am traveling. I love pilates, hip hop dance classes, aerial silks and most recently got addicted to The Tracey Anderson Method, but sadly it’s not in Miami.
What is one life lesson you will never forget?
Everything has an expiration date. Don’t take things, experiences or people for granted. Take a moment and take things in...
Who has influenced you the most in life and why?
My father has influenced me the most in my life. He taught me everything I know and continues to make me want to be a better person each day.
